1971 Fiat Dino Bertone Coupe

A stunning original example of this rare 2400 model, brought over from Milano, Italy. Assembly of this model was the only year that the Fiat Dino series production took place completely in the Maranello factory, evident by the Dino logo on the cylinder block casing. Maranello manufacturing was judged far superior in build quality to the original models built in Turin by Fiat.

Unbelievably this Dino is still wearing its rosso originale di Bertone (Red) paintwork and bearing its original unmarked grey velour interior and trim. The wonderful engine in these 2400 models was upgraded in 1969 from the 2000 models engine and featured a cast iron Block also manufactured by Ferrari itself, then mated to a five speed German dogleg ZF gearbox. Several factors contributed to the consumer appreciation of the Dino: the wheelbase of the longer coupe afforded a much more appealing rear seat, rigid chassis, redesigned independent rear suspension, upsized disk brakes/calipers, and increased torque at lower speeds delivered a very usable platform for transport of four people even in city driving.

“Dino” named for Enzo Ferrari’s late son Alfredo Ferrari who died in 1956. “Dino” and was credited with conceptualizing Ferrari’s Formula 2 V6 engine. In tribute, V-6 prototype racing cars since the late 1950’s were named “Dino.” In collaboration with Fiat, Ferrari was able to bolster production capacity to exceed the minimum 500 engine quota in order to satisfy Formula 2 racing requirements for inclusion in the competitive circuit. This resulted in commercial production of two vastly different vehicles: the front-engined Fiat Dino and the mid-engined Ferrari Dino 246 GT.
