1988 Jaguar XJS

Designed as a Luxury Grand Tourer vehicle, the XJS combined high-end styling with advanced aerodynamics to create Jaguar’s longest-running model, selling well over 100,000 cars.

In order to be considered a true Grand Tourer, a vehicle must be capable of maintaining high speeds over long distances. The XJS is more than up to the task. The car’s V12 engine was a unique offering, but one that enabled the XJS to keep pace with Italian sports car makers Lamborghini and Ferrari. Zero-to-sixty in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph was enough to catch the attention of luxury car buyers who wanted something high-end, but not sleepy. The ride is Jaguar smooth, and Jaguar strong.

Half the appeal of driving a Jaguar is to be seen driving a Jaguar. This makes the car’s removable Targa top perhaps the car’s best feature. It has all the visibility of a convertible with the rollover safety of a hard top. Inside the XJS, 2 + 2 seating allows room for the occasional (small) child or weekend bag. The dashboard layout is elegant, with rich wood trim. The trunk carries a full-sized spare, with plenty of room for luggage. Long weekend trips never had it so good.
