2001 BMW Z8

As an homage to BMW’s famed 507 roadster, the Z8 is an all-aluminum two-seater convertible powered by a 394-hp V8 straight out of the BMW Motorsports division. Needing barely 5 seconds to reach freeway speeds from a standstill, you get plenty of performance to go with its superb styling.

The car’s Fisker-designed exterior styling is altogether luscious and laid-back. Rather than boast about its performance status, Henrik Fisker chose modesty. The only Z8 badging you’ll find is on the interior of the car. For this vehicle, BMW let the design speak for itself. It has a confidently powerful stance that tells other drivers it doesn’t need to beat them off the line to prove itself – but it can.

The Z8’s interior is an outstanding blend of futuristic minimalism and retro-designed art deco. Think of a spaceship from the future as designed by an engineer in the 1950’s. Clear and concise gauges and knobs highlighted by brushed aluminum accents add to the dashboard’s clean, cool, and chic look.

The limited production run boosts the 2001 Z8’s rarity factor (only 970 were sold in the U.S.). Bolstered by BMW’s pledge to maintain a half-century stockpile of spare parts, the car has a built-in collector value. The hardest part of owning one is resisting the temptation to make it a daily driver (although it drives so well that you absolutely could).
