2019 Porsche 911 Speedster

The seventh generation of the iconic Porsche 911 received an internal designation of “991” and went on to become the most successful sports car in history, with more than a quarter of a million vehicles produced and sold. In fact, the one-millionth 911 sold was a 991 series model. This became the origin story for the 911 Speedster. Porsche planned to conclude the production run of the car, and they pulled out all the stops with the 2019 model.

Using the tried-and-true rear-engine, 2-door design with a flat-six engine, Porsche once again knocked it out of the park with the Speedster. A 3.7-second 0-60 time shows that the company was committed to this model finishing strong. In terms of drivability, this car will spoil you. Spend time behind the wheel of a Speedster and every other vehicle’s handling will seem sub-par.

The Speedster is more comfortable than you might expect, both in the cabin and on the road. Snug bucket seats and a thoughtful layout of the controls let you know that the engineering didn’t stop with the engine. Everything in this car is thoughtfully positioned. A driver can easily become one with the controls, like a fighter pilot in an F-15.

An added bonus is how well it does the things it wasn’t even designed to do. Case-in-point: This wasn’t meant to be a big cargo carrier, yet it delivers a payload limit of 723 lbs. The trunk (found in the front of the car, if you’re looking) is surprisingly generous at 4.4 cubic feet. Gas mileage is an afterthought in sports cars, but the Speedster delivers a combined 23 mpg.

The Speedster has a pumped-up back end that makes it looks like the 911 has been lifting weights. It still looks like a Porsche, only more exotic. Only 1,948 of the 2019 Speedster were made, making it one of the most coveted modern Porsches around.
