2020 McLaren 570S
Slide into the McLaren 570S and you have entered the world of the supercars, which have a reputation for being not necessarily practical or ergonomic. Exotic vehicles are like the high heels of cars. They look great, but are only meant for short stints and brief appearances. Anything more, and things start getting pretty uncomfortable. The McLaren, however, proves to be somewhat of an exception. Although completely impractical for trips to Costco, the car actually operates as good as any daily driver (a daily driver that can reach 200 mph). The cabin (cockpit?) of the McLaren features two impressively comfortable seats, with support and bolstering you wish every car – and chair – would have. Premium leather surfaces and carbon fiber trim throughout the car complete the high-end feel you should expect from this class of vehicle. There is also a surprising yet well-appreciated array of tech and infotainment features ranging from its premium audio system to its three-camera Track Telemetry and Lap Time Function – just in case you forgot the inspiration behind the McLaren.
Under the hood (which happens to sit behind the driver) is a twin-turbo 304 V8 that serves up 562 hp without breaking a sweat. When pursuing the shortest distance between two points, the 570S can turn that straight line into a blurred line. Yes, it’s that fast. No, that’s not hyperbole. You can achieve 0-60 in three seconds. Thankfully, it comes with Brembo brakes that take you back from 60-0 in just 97 feet.
You won’t find any official ratings or measurements regarding the gawk factor, but it’s important to know that with the McLaren it’s extremely high. Once you leave your driveway, you’re considered fair game for selfies or anyone hoping to chat you up about your car. It doesn’t matter if you’re at the gas station or simply stopped at a red light. Perfect strangers will strike up a conversation with you. It can be a little off-putting at first, but hopefully you’ll learn to adjust. And if the introvert in you doesn’t like all the extra attention, remember that you always have the power to disappear in seconds flat.
