2022 Ferrari Stradale SF90
There’s high end. There’s super high-end. And then there’s the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. With an MSRP well above a half-million dollars, this exquisite work of Italian art occupies a special place among sports cars. The car was named in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team. The “Stradale” designation translates to “made for the road.” This combination of racing roots and street prowess is about as close as an amateur driver can get to automotive Nirvana. At a price that exceeds most people’s houses, this car is as exotic as they come. But in terms of performance, it puts your money where its mouth is.
This Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) features 3 electric motors that work in concert with the 4-liter, gas-powered engine to produce a whopping 986 horsepower. Activate eDrive mode and you get 16 miles of all-electric range. Once you’re done saving the planet, your driving adventure continues with astounding performance rarely experienced in a street-legal car. The twin-turbo V8 takes you to 100 mph before most cars can reach 50.
The cabin (cockpit?) of this mid-engine, two-seater shows all the driving vitals on its 16-inch curved display located behind the steering wheel. A heads-up display reconfigures itself depending on which of the four driving modes is selected. Controls are a combination of touch screen and physical knobs.
There’s not a single view, angle, or side of this car that isn’t drop-dead gorgeous. Inside or out. No subtle messages or secret winks. By all accounts, this car is over-the-top, and not ashamed to admit it. The SF90 announces exactly what it is and what it does, and then it backs up those claims on the road. Get behind the wheel for the first time and you may question whether you deserve a vehicle this magnificent. You don’t. But just count your blessings, step down on the gas pedal, and enjoy her while you’ve got her.
