2000 BMW Z3 M Roadster

Inspired by the classic European roadsters of the 1950s and 1960s, the BMW Z3 remains just as striking today as when it first debuted. Produced from 1995 to 2002 as BMW's first mass-produced Z Series model, the two-seat Z3 combined compact proportions with rear-wheel-drive dynamics. From 1998 to 2002, BMW transformed the Z3 into the high-performance M Roadster and M Coupé, pairing the platform's lightweight chassis with race-bred engineering.

Built exclusively at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina, facility with key drivetrain components imported from Germany, the M models were powered by naturally aspirated inline-six engines depending on market and model year, with all vehicles equipped exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission. Compared to the standard Z3, the M Roadster gained a wider rear track and exclusive M styling inside and out, including flared fenders and BMW M's first production quad-exhaust system. It also remained visually unchanged through the 2000 facelift.

This 2000 Z3 M Roadster is powered by a 3.2-liter inline-six derived from the E36 M3, an engine celebrated for its smooth delivery and mechanical precision. Even in factory form, the M Roadster delivered exceptional performance, but the power was still insufficient. Thanks to European Motorwerks of Jupiter, Florida, this car was transformed into an exceptionally well-engineered performance roadster for Mr. Lubeck. A custom-built dual turbocharger was developed for the engine, dramatically increasing performance while retaining the engine's responsive nature. Supporting the additional power are an upgraded twin-disc clutch, a custom limited-slip differential with modified rear subframe supports, upgraded suspension and braking systems, and a custom high-performance exhaust. The result is a remarkably balanced "pocket rocket," delivering 240 horsepower while building upon BMW's already exceptional engineering and preserving the design and spirit that make the Z3 M so special.

Inside, the M Roadster features exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, four-way heated power sport seats, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and chrome interior accents. Air conditioning, cruise control, and a convertible top make the car equally suited for everyday driving, while its design and analog character have helped establish it as one of the most desirable BMWs.

In total, just 15,322 Z3 M Roadsters were produced. Production concluded in 2002, solidifying the Z3's legacy as a landmark in BMW history and a recipient of multiple period accolades, including Intellichoice's 2000 "Best Overall Value" award and Top Gear 's 2000 "Driver's Car of the Year" for the M Coupé. This meticulously upgraded model remains faithful to its original design, with carefully chosen enhancements that improve performance and durability without compromising its character.
